The Kings Arms on Main Street launched the brand-new scheme earlier this month.

It will offer meals at recession-busting prices to the over 50s living in and around the villages of Clarborough, Hayton and the Retford area.

Older people will be able to get a starter for £2.25, a main course for £4.95 and a dessert for £2.25 on Wednesdays from 12noon. Coun Stuart Wallace, deputy chairman of the county council’s adult social care and health committee, said the scheme was a great way to encourage people to get out and about in a different setting.

“Luncheon clubs tend to be offered in a day centre or a care home so this scheme gives a new alternative for older people wanting to have a meal with new and old friends in a local pub setting,” he said.

Ann Ratcliffe from the Kings Arms said: “We want the pub to be a real focal point for the village and are delighted to offer older people somewhere to meet and socialise particularly if they are on their own.”
