Members of the public were invited to go along and hold a candle in support of the NHS and Louth’s hospital - the future of which is currently being considered under Lincolnshire Health and Care’s ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plan’ (STP).

Outside the hospital last night, speeches were made by Labour Party branch chairman Ros Jackson, plus David Hall, Peter Hill and Julie Speed.

Ros told the Leader: “We’ve heard arguments in favour of centralisation for the sake of quality which sound an awful lot like excuses for privatisation and asset stripping. It doesn’t matter much if the care you will get in hospital is excellent - rather than good - if it takes an hour for an ambulance to come and another hour or more to drive to it for urgent conditions.

“And it doesn’t matter if there’s a great A&E in Grimsby if you can’t afford over £30 for the late night taxi back, so don’t go at all.

“It’s worth noting, I’ve never heard anything but good things about care in Louth County Hospital.”
