Langold teen helped in theft

A LANGOLD teenager helped steal property from outside a house while running a scrap metal venture, a court heard.

A woman had put a lawnmower, vacuum cleaner, microwave and a pair of iron gates outside her Glapwell home. She went out on the morning of 3rd April and returned to find the items missing.

Becky Mahon, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates CCTV footage showed property being removed by a man in a high-visibility jacket. A few days later police were told about three men trying to steal a gatepost from another address in Glapwell.

“On viewing footage it was noticed it was the same three men and all were arrested,” she said.

Jack Chick, 19, of Eagle Road, Spalford told police he believed one of his colleagues had been given permission to remove property.

“He was then shown the footage and he admitted behaving in a dishonest manner. Jack Marsden was shown footage and also admitted taking items without permission,” she added.

Marsden, 18, of Purbeck Crescent, Langold, and Chick pleaded guilty to theft and were ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work and pay £50 compensation.

Third offender, Levi Moorhouse, is being dealt with separately.
