Writing on its website just after 4.45pm, Anglian Water said it is ‘working hard’ to get the fault fixed which according to its Twitter page has hit ‘over 16,000 properties’. The leak had been fixed but it would take a little time for water and pressure to return to normal for everyone.

It said the supply should be back to normal within the hour.

The company said: “We really do appreciate your patience and sorry again for any inconvenience caused.”

The water company warned when the supply is back the water may look cloudy or discoloured and advised people to run their tap for a couple of minutes after which it should clear.

It added: “We’re really sorry we’ve inconvenienced you and thanks for your patience.”

The burst main follows one at Bargate roundabout last month, as reported here, which led to a lengthy period of disruption for motorists while repairs took place.
