“There was a barn area divided into three parts. There was a drying area, an area for mother plants and a growing area. It was a professional set-up.

Mr Dunn said that cannabis plants were also found in a caravan and in an HGV in the farm yard. Another caravan was being used to bag up cannabis into one ounce deals.

“It was set up produce four harvests a year. The figures are quite staggering.

“This could have yielded up to £250,000 a year of cannabis. The lowest conceivable figure is £30,000.”

Two men who admitted their parts in the operation were each given suspended jail sentences.

Bobby Walton admitted assisting with the installation of wiring and Peter Lake admitted he was a gardener who watered the plants.

Walton, 26, of Common Road, Wrangle , and Lake, 35, of Sandygate Crescent, Old Leake, each pleaded guilty to producing cannabis. Walton was given three months imprisonment suspended for two years and Lake received eight months jail suspended for two years.

Noel Philo, for Walton, said his involvement in the set-up was ‘minuscule’ and urged he be given a suspended sentence.

Neil Sands, for Lake, said that his client pleaded guilty in February 2016 and has been awaiting sentence since that date.

“He has not committed any further offences since that date.”
