Chapel members are hoping to raise the six-figure sum to carry out a number of improvements to the building.

They include installing a toilet, removing damp, and updating the heating and lighting. The aim is to provide the village with another community facility.

The minister at the chapel, the Rev Ann Lett, who is supporting members in the project, said: “With Timberland losing its pub and its village shop, we are very aware that if the village isn’t careful it will lose all its social gathering spaces, and so we are trying our best to provide another venue that will meet the needs of the local community.”

On Saturday, from 10.30am till noon, an event will be held at the chapel, in West Street, to officially launch the fundraising process.

Some £36,000 of the funds have already been secured, leaving £70,000 still to find.

Saturday’s event will be a chance to learn more about the project, but will also see a group of chapel members taking part in a sponsored bike ride from Timberland Chapel to Sleaford Chapel and back again.

The event will also include talks and refreshments.
