Leap of faith for local baby unit

Lindsey Denman’s son Darcy was born prematurely in February 2008, and was cared for by the special care baby unit at Lincoln County Hospital.

Four years on Lindsey, Darcy is a happy and healthy little boy, and Lindsey is preparing to do a bungee jump to raise money for the unit.

“Without their help and support I wouldn’t like to think what the outcome would have been for Darcy,” said Lindsey.

“For every step you take forward you take two steps back and they wee always their to reassure me.”

“While Darcy was in the unit I saw first hand how important their work is. And without extra fundraising the unit struggles to purchase equipment.”

“I have organised the events to try to say thank you and give a little back to the unit that helped Darcy so much in the first weeks of his life.”

On 6th August Lindsey and 25 others will do the bungee jump at The Jack and Jill pub in Gainsborough, and hopes to raise £2,000 for the unit.

“That would supply them with an incubator that would be able to transfer very sick babies between hospitals and save the lives of countless sick babies,” she said.

And with just a matter of weeks before she is due to take the plunge, the nerves are beginning to set in.

“I just wanted to do something a bit outrageous to attract people’s attention and get as many sponsors as possible,” she said.

I’ve never done a bungee jump before and I’m really nervous about doing it. But I just have to think for those five seconds of fear the amount of money we are going to raise will make it more than worth it. It will make such a difference.”

After the bungee jump there will be a fun day at the Jack ad Jill the following weekend on 12th August.

There will be a host of fun and games for all the family including face painting, bouncy castle, games, stalls, raffle, karaoke and disco.

All of the money raised from both events will go to the special care baby unit at Lincoln County Hospital.
