Lifesaving equipment installed in outside village church

St Barnabas Church in Gunness is the latest public building to have a life-saving defibrillator installed by North Lincolnshire Council.

The council has invested over £100,000 to provide Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in towns and villages across North Lincolnshire and we have now installed 93 across the area, with a further six in the pipeline.

The defibrillators are fixed to the external wall of public buildings so they are easily accessed in case of an emergency. In Gunness, the defibrillator has been installed at the rear of Coleman Hall at St Barnabas Church on Station Road.

If someone goes into cardiac arrest, a member of the public can call 999 and be given a code to access the defibrillator. The defibrillators themselves talk the user through the resuscitation process and the emergency services will remain on the phone to provide further guidance while you wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“When someone goes into cardiac arrest, the minutes spent waiting for an ambulance to arrive are crucial and these defibrillators can make all the difference. The more people in Gunness that know about the new defibrillator, the better chance there is of it being used in an emergency and potentially saving someone’s life.

“Although we are very proud to provide this specialist equipment across North Lincolnshire, we hope they don’t have to be used very often.”
