Lincolnshire emergency service urges motorists to take care amid weather warnings from Met Office

In a Tweet to their online followers this morning the emergency service said: “Stong wind, localised heavy rain and possible thunderstorms predicted today.

“Please be cautious, use lights and be aware of all road users. Drive safe,” they added.

The warning comes after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for Lincolnshire for “heavy showers and thunderstorms” from 11am onwards.

“Heavy showers and thunderstorms with hail are likely to develop and move east later this morning and during the afternoon,” said a spokesperson for the Met Office.

“The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding.

“Some intense showers and thunderstorms are likely, possibly becoming aligned in west to east bands. Hail is also possible along with the risk of localised squally winds in the south of the warning area.

“There is a risk of 10-20mm of rain falling within an hour and up to 30 m in less than three hours.

“Showers will progressively die out from the west as the afternoon progresses,” they added.
