Lincolnshire County Council’s Rural Gain Grant aims to improve access to local services in Lincolnshire’s small towns and villages.

The grant can support the development of business or community projects which maintain or enhance rural life by providing essential services, and reducing the need to travel.

Examples include the introduction of new services to a village shop such as increased fresh produce or home delivery, accommodating the post office within the local pub or supporting local produce counters within an existing vital service.

Coun Richard Davies, executive councillor for Highways and Transportation at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We recognise the value of essential rural services to local people and understand that they are often a focal point for the community; particularly important in serving the needs of disadvantaged, vulnerable and elderly people.”

“The Rural Gain Grant aims to support essential rural services and reduce the need to travel.”

Funding of up to £10,000 is available to organisations based in a Lincolnshire village or small town whose population is less than 5,000 people.

The grant requires 50 per cent match-funding by the business.

Since March 2010, Lincolnshire County Council’s Rural Gain Grant has supported 26 projects, awarding £122,000 to rural communities.
