A search for new recruits who live in Lincolnshire, including South Holland and the Deepings, started yesterday and the selection process will take place in stages over the next year.

Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable Neil Rhodes said: “We are determined to keep up to strength our officer numbers and to ensure we will have enough suitable candidates for the new training courses planned for 2017 to 2019, we are starting the process to recruit them right now.”

“To achieve that we have decided that to become an officer in Lincolnshire, all candidates must be able to show that they have lived in the county for at least a year, or in exceptional circumstances, can demonstrate a strong link to the county. “For example, they may have served in the Armed Forces here in Lincolnshire before being moved away.

“In any case, I want the force to reflect the community it serves, for applicants to have an understanding of the county and for them to understand issues facing the people of Lincolnshire.”

The force plans to keep officer numbers at 1,100, despite a looming £4.4 million budget gap in 2017/18.

However, there could be a drop in PCSO numbers from its current level of 149 as those who retire or resign will not be replaced until a new budget is set in December.
