Lincolnshire’s flood planning and response praised in official report

The report summarises a review of strategic flood risk management and features Lincolnshire as a case study. It highlights work by the county’s Flood Risk Partnership to reduce the likelihood and impact of flooding by 2025.

Lincolnshire has been identified as an example of best practice in several areas including partnership working, proactive planning, hazard mapping and effective community awareness campaigns.

Councillor Colin Davie, executive member for environment and planning, said: “We’re very pleased that our hard work, forward planning and cooperation with partner agencies have been recognised in the National Audit Office’s report as examples of best practice nationally.

“Being a coastal county, Lincolnshire faces an ongoing risk of coastal flooding and therefore we will continue to work with other organisations locally to develop our flooding strategy, minimise risk, and inform and protect our local residents.”

The case study in the report examines Lincolnshire’s planning and response to the 2013-14 coastal surge, in which 137,000 properties were at risk of flooding.

The report examines how agencies continue to address flood risk in a time of reduced financial resources and how communities are creating strategies to manage their own flood risk.
