Lincs: £10k in vital funds awarded to county’s search and rescue team

LincsLSAR is a volunteer search and rescue team, whose membership has doubled since the organisation was launched in May 2015.

The team operates from Stamford in the south to the River Humber in the north and was formed to provide assistance to the Lincolnshire and Humberside police forces in missing person investigations and support to vulnerable communities in times of difficulty.

Team chairman, Howard Brown, said: “We offer an essential service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“All of our members are volunteers with a wealth of relevant experience, including people from military and emergency services backgrounds. We are already providing extra resources to the police during missing person searches and can assist other agencies to access and remove casualties.

“The team is entirely self-funded, with no statutory funding, and the grant from the Big Lottery Fund will go a long way towards equipping our members with some of the necessary rescue, medical and protective equipment we require. We hope to be able to obtain charitable status in the near future.”

Lincolnshire Lowland Search and Rescue has doubled its number of qualified searchers since the team was formed in May, but is looking to increase its capability and resilience.

The team is looking to recruit men and women who are over 18, physically fit and able to operate in the countryside for extended periods of time. You will be provided with all the necessary training you need, including navigation skills and first aid. We are also hoping to recruit people to non-operational roles.
