Lincs: Seven Lincolnshire businesses have been given Minstry of Defence Awards

Seven Lincolnshire businesses, from both the public and private sector, have received a certificate for supporting Defence personnel.

The businesses from Lincoln, Grantham and Gainsborough received a Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver award for demonstrating their support to Reservist employees.

The awards were presented by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Lincolnshire, Tony Worth at The White Hart Hotel, Bailgate, Lincoln onWednesday 3rd December.

Reservists are men and women who give up their free time to train alongside our full-time military forces and may be called on to serve the country in times of need at home or aboard.

The organisations awarded in Lincolnshire were Ping Europe Limited in Gainsborough, Autism Care UK Ltd in Lincoln, Cathodic Protection Co Ltd in Grantham, Grantham College in Grantham, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service in Lincoln, South Kesteven District Council in Grantham and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust in Lincoln.

The new Employer Recognition Scheme was recently launched by the Prime Minister and is part the Defence’s commitment to recognise and reward those employers who commit to supporting Defence personnel.

The scheme recognises support given to Defence personnel including Reservists, veterans, families and also cadets.

John Wilson, Regional SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) Campaign Director for the East Midlands, said: “The presentation event was a great success with many of those in attendance having the opportunity to speak to other Lincolnshire employers about their experiences of employing Reservists.”

“The MOD received over 500 nominations for Silver awards across the UK and 85 are being awarded to employers based in the East Midlands.”

Stav Melides, attended the awards presentation on behalf of the Federation of Small Businesses in Lincolnshire.

He said: “The event was fantastic.”

“To recognise employers for their support to the Armed Forces is an excellent idea.”

Julian Brazier TD MP, Minister for Reserves said: “I am delighted with the positive response to the Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme, launched by the Prime Minister in July this year.”

“Over 360 employers have already been recognised with the Silver Award via this scheme.”

“We look forward to recognising many more employers in future.”
