Little Jamie is a national treasure

A BRIGHT young lad from Langold Dyscarr Community School has been impressed judges across the country and come out on top of a national reading and writing competition.

Jamie Hopkinson, six, has won first prize at the Reading Recovery Children’s Competition 2012 - and his teachers say that they couldn’t be more proud.

Teacher Anne Harrison said that she was delighted with all that Jamie had accomplished.

“He’s amazing,” she said.

“Reading Recovery is a national programme that many schools throughout the country run, and this was an award for five to six year-olds, with the final at the Institute of Education in London.”

For the competition, Jamie submitted a piece of writing about what reading means to him.

He wrote: ‘I like to snuggle in my blanket to read my story so I can think about the words.’

Anne continued: “This is a phenomenal achievement - he will be renowned around the country.”

“We’re all extremely proud of him. He’s done so very well and is a lovely little boy.”
