Lorry driver charged over fatal A1 cyclist crash

POLICE have charged a lorry driver almost eight months after a cyclist was killed on the A1 near Blyth, Notts.

Nigel Drake, 43, of Low Street, Carlton, in Goole, North Humberside, was driving a heavy goods vehicle which collided with cyclist Andrew Ridsdale on Sunday 18th March.

Mr Ridsdale, 43, from Mirfield in West Yorkshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

It happened just before 8.55am on the A1 southbound, near the end of the A634 Spital Road slip road at Blyth.

Drake will appear at Worksop Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15th November charged with driving without due care and attention.
