Lorry driver up in court

A LORRY driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a cyclist on the A1 near Blyth.

Nigel Drake, 43, of Low Street, Carlton, in Goole, was driving a heavy goods vehicle which collided with cyclist Andrew Ridsdale on Sunday 18th March.

Mr Ridsdale, 43, from Mirfield in West Yorkshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

It happened just before 8.55am on the A1 southbound, near the end of the A634 Spital Road slip road at Blyth.

Drake made no plea when he appeared at Worksop Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on a charge of causing death by careless driving.

His case was sent to Nottingham Crown Court for a hearing on 14th March next year.
