Louth nonagenarians enjoy special party to mark Queen's 90th birthday

Twenty-five nonagenarians, alongside carers and family members, attended the event where they enjoyed hot drinks and refreshments, including a chocolate cake made to the same recipe as the Queen will be enjoying today. The guests also enjoyed a fun quiz about the Queen and her life.

Mayor Councillor Sue Locking, Town Clerk Linda Blankley, Mayor’s Secretary Lynda Phillips and town councillors greeted the residents and served them refreshments.

The Mayor said: “This is such a wonderful occasion and I’m thrilled that so many people have attended.

“I’m so glad we thought of this idea to pay tribute to our wonderful monarch on her birthday. There is a marvellous atmosphere here.

“I would like to thank those town councillors who helped, and the Town Clerk and Mayor’s Secretary for the extra hours they’ve put in to make sure it is a success.”

Following the party, the Mayor and her Serjeant visited half a dozen local care homes to celebrate with nonagenarians who were unable to visit The Sessions House.

• This evening, the town’s beacon lighting ceremony will take place at 7.45pm at The Gatherums, following the Mayor’s welcome at 7.30pm.
