Lucky escape after Gainsborough arson attack

OCCUPANTS of a Gainsborough home had a lucky escape on Wednesday night after a house was targeted by arsonists.

A bottle of flammable liquid was hurled at a house on Richardson Rise, just after midnight on 15th November.

Luckily, everyone in the house managed to escape without injury.

But the police are warning the incident could have been much worse.

Two fire engines from Gainsborough attended and found that the fire had already been put out.

They inspected to make sure the scene was safe, and noted that the blaze had caused severe damage to the curtains and carpet under the living room window.

And the rest of the ground floor suffered light smoke damage.

PCSO Penny Shaw, from Gainsborough Police Station, confirmed a bottle containing flammable liquid had been thrown at the house.

“The occupants of the house were able to escape the building, but this incident could have posed a serious risk of harm to the residents of the house targeted, and to those in neighbouring properties,” she said.
