Major Mablethorpe beach hut work begins

Extensive improvement works are now underway on a number of beach huts in Mablethorpe and will be completed and ready for the upcoming season.

In total £197,000 is being spent on the beach huts - with £147,000 of funds being provided by East Lindsey District Council and a further £50,000 from the Coastal Revival Fund.

The revival funds were successfully secured by the Mablethorpe Area Partnership Community Interest Company (MAP CIC).

Portfolio holder for Coastal Economy, Councillor Steve Kirk, said: “The traditional beach hut is an important part of the seaside experience on the Lincolnshire coast.

“I’m pleased that these significant works have started on the Mablethorpe huts and the benefits will be seen in time for the 2017 season.”

Funds are being used to build nine new huts that will fill current empty plots at Queen’s Park.

Once complete, they will be made available for sale leasehold by the end of May at a price of £12,000 each.

Huts 1-18 on the Central Promenade in Mablethorpe are being refurbished.

This work will include redecoration, new kitchen units and sink, plus new UPVC doors internally and new external wooden doors.

All of the work is set to be completed by Easter.

In Sutton on Sea, the Residents’ Association has taken on a five-year lease for hut numbers 2 to 15.

East Lindsey District Council has put aside a further £205,000 of capital funds to redevelop huts 16 to 29 at Sutton on Sea.

This funding is subject to match funding from the Residents’ Association.

Coun Kirk added: “The Sutton on Sea Residents’ Association has done a tremendous job in managing the huts in Sutton on Sea last season and we look forward to this continuing during the five year lease.”
