Maltby Academy hailed as rapidly improving
The leadership and management of the school was rated as outstanding and inspectors said this had ‘brought about the rapid rise in achievement, improved behaviour and higher attendance’.
Inspectors visited the academy, with 1,137 pupils, in May and visited 43 lessons.
Inspector Bernard Campbell said that achievement has risen particularly fast in English and maths and that the behaviour of students was good, adding that bullying is rare and students feel safe.
He added that most of the teaching was good at the school.
Mr Campbell said: “Maltby is a good and rapidly improving academy.”
“Its positive and disciplined ethos successfully promotes pride, mutual respect and good behaviour among students.”
“The good climate for learning and good teaching has resulted in good achievement.”
“Outstanding leadership has brought about this rapid rise in achievement, improved behaviour and higher attendance.”
“This academy is not outstanding because achievement is satisfactory in the sixth form and attainment is below average in science.”
According to the Ofsted report, inspectors highlighted several areas were the academy needs to improve further.
It needs to accelerate the overall progress made by sixth form students by reducing the inconsistency in the progress made by students in different subjects and further improve attendance to above the national average.
Inspectors also want the school to increase student’s achievements in science so they make good progress and attain standards which are at least in line with the national average, by improving the quality of teaching so that it is consistently good or better.
