Man admits racist abuse

On 14th June, police were called out to the King Edward pub on Ryton Street, where Glynn Edward York, 55, of Potter Street, was found shouting racial abuse at a black man.

York made full admissions in a police interview, where he said that he got ‘caught up in the heat of the moment’ when defending the landlady after a row erupted.

The court heard: “Mr York accepts that he was wrong. He is not proud of what he said, he is ashamed and truly regrets it.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until 5th July for a report from probation services to be prepared.

York was told to expect a community order for the offence.

He has unconditional bail.
