Man attacked officers '˜after drinks spiked'

Ryus Robert John William Noakes, 20, of Wide Farm Road, Boston, admitted violent behaviour in Boston police station when he appeared before magistrates.

Prosecuting, Jim Clare said police were called to a domestic incident at Noakes’ then home in Station Street at 11pm on February 2, as a result of which Noakes, who was very drunk, was advised to leave the scene, which he did, thanking the officer as he did so.

However, police were called back half an hour later, said Mr Clare, to find Noakes had returned and they had to arrest him for causing a breach of the peace.

He said Noakes was compliant until they got to the police station when he kicked a police officer and had to be held down, at which he went ‘berserk’.

Mr Clare said that when officers were trying to get his shoe laces off, he was kicking out and bit one of the officers, as a result other officers had to be called to hold him down.

Mitigating, Neil Sands said Noakes had been out with friends and had had a perfectly sociable evening but had then learnt later he had had his drinks spiked and was himself assaulted.

He said Noakes had no memory of what had happened after he left home until he woke up the next day.

Mr Sands said as a result Noakes and his partner had separated and that those who had spiked his drinks ‘were no longer his friends’.

Noakes was given an 18 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.
