Man deliberately drove into a wall

A Worksop man who deliberately drove a car into a wall and then tried to escape from police officers has been fined.

Anthony Turner, 25, of Lincoln Street, Worksop was fined £230 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard that police tried to pull over the car been driven by Turner because they suspected him of drinking.

Prosecutor Ruth Snowdin said the car then crashed into a wall and Turner walked away. Police caught up with him a short time later and he pushed an officer while he was being detained.

Turner admitted assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty, failure to provide a breath specimen and driving without a licence or insurance, all on 20th April.

Defence solicitor David Verity said Turner ‘had lots of problems that had caused him difficulties.’

On the day he had a serious argument with his girlfriend and decided to drive around to let things calm down despite having several cans of alcohol.

“He was driving towards Clumber Park when he noticed the police car. He panicked somewhat and he drove off and the police continued to follow him,” said Mr Verity.

“He deliberately drove the car into the wall. He tried to explain his problems to police.”

Mr Verity said Turner suffered a back injury in a crash which was aggravated by how police detained him, causing him to react how he did.

Turner was given eight penalty points and ordered to pay £50 compensation, £40 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
