Man in court for pointing a rifle at officer

A MAN who pointed a rifle at a policeman entering a house in Worksop could be facing a lengthy prison term.

Tests have first to be carried out to determine whether the airrifle is classed as a fatal firearm, a court heard.

Officers went to a reported dispute at the house in John Street on 11th July.

Shane Wilkinson, 43, raised the rifle to eye level and was looking down the sights, said Gareth Gimson, prosecuting at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

Wilkinson, of Creswell Road, Worksop, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The sentence can be up to 10 years depending on the type of weapon, the court heard.

Wilkinson has also admitted possession of cannabis and amphetamine with intent to supply them, and simple possession of cocaine on 8th February.

He has been held in custody and will appear for sentecning on 6th September.
