man raped victim in her own home

Scott Wells (pictured), of Rufford Avenue, Ordsall, was convicted by a jury following a three-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

Wells turned up at the 22-year-old woman’s address, in North Notts, at around 2am on Friday 12th August.

Once inside her house Wells beat her and forced her to have sex with him. Her two young children were asleep upstairs throughout the assault.

Wells left her home shortly after and the woman fled to a relative’s house.

A police investigation was launched and Wells was arrested the next day and charged with rape. He denied the offence and told the police he’d had consensual sex with the woman but was found guilty on Thursday 24th November.

The court heard that Wells had committed an earlier attack against his victim in July 2010, where he kicked in her front door, hit her in the face and poured petrol on her house.

He pleaded guilty to damaging property, affray and threatening to destroy property in November last year. He received a two-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. He was also handed a two-year supervision requirement and told to complete 150 hours unpaid work.

DC Kirsty Dack, from the Public Protection Unit, led the inquiry and said that Wells has shown no regret for his actions.

She said: “He has behaved despicably and has shown absolutely no remorse for the horrifying ordeal he put his victim through.”

“She was attacked in her own home as her children slept nearby. She was not only terrified for herself, but for what would happen if the children woke.”

“As if being forced to have sex against your will was not enough, he also put her through the distress of going through a public trial where she had to face her attacker in court and relive the nightmare.”

“But the victim has shown tremendous bravery and courage and she was determined to give her account in person in court.”

“The jury saw through his lies and sent Wells to prison for the atrocities he committed.”

“There is now one less dangerous man on the streets of Nottinghamshire and I would encourage other victims of rape or sexual assault to come forward so that we can seek justice for them too.”
