Man waved a claw hammer

John Reynolds, of North Carr Road, West Stockwith, shouted at the doctor outside Misterton Group Practice on 2nd May.

Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard the doctor was locking up the premises with receptionists when Reynolds approached him.

Prosecutor Rosie Wyld said Reynolds had seen the GP around six weeks before for long term health and mental health problems relating to a serious car accident in 2010.

She said the doctor could smell alcohol on Reynolds’ breath and was concerned for his own safety and that of the receptionists with him.

Mrs Wyld said a married couple, who had a young child with them, came across the road to check if the doctor was ok, and Reynolds began directing abuse at them.

Reynolds got a claw hammer out of his car and began swinging it around infront of the man.

In an interview with police Reynolds described the man as a ‘giant’ and said he got the claw hammer out to try and get him to back off, added Mrs Wyld.

The 39-year-old admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.

Andrew Osbourne, defending, said Reynolds accepts his behaviour was threatening.

He said Reynolds was not satisfied with a part of the treatment he was given and wanted to confront the GP about it.

He said Reynolds has pressing psychiatric needed relating to post traumatic stress disorder.

Magistrates requested a physiatric report and adjourned the case to 13th June.
