Ian Johnson will be taking part in the second-ever Boston Marathon on Monday, April 17, in support of Breast Cancer Now.

Ian’s inspiration comes in the form of his sister, married mother-of-two Joanne Wilkins, 44, of Boston.

He said: “My youngest sister Joanne was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in August 2014. She has undergone surgery, endured six months of chemotherapy plus three weeks of radiotherapy at Lincoln County Hospital. Despite this intensive and aggressive treatment she still required a double mastectomy.”

He added: “Joanne was born prematurely (with twin Michael) weighing in at a lightweight 3lbs. The local priest Christened Joanne in her incubator as she was not expected to survive – she did and continues to battle her way through life whatever the challenges.”
