Rachel Armitage, 30, will be taking part in a half-marathon for her mum Anne Grafton, who died at the age of 52.

The former Standard reporter said: “November 2017 marks 10 years since when I lost my mum to breast cancer, so this year I want to take part in my toughest fundraiser yet - the Wolverhampton Half Marathon.

“I’m a terrible runner so this is going to be so hard, but I keep telling myself that my mum suffered through months of chemo so running 13 miles pales in comparison really.”

In preparation, Rachel has been racking up a few miles around the cliff villages she lives, despite having a dodgy knee and suffering from shin splints.

Rachel is running the half marathon for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer research charity.

On the day, she will be joined by her step-brother Simon Foulger, 32. The route goes past the street where she grew up in Wolverhampton, and also her uncle’s house.

To reach her £1,000 target, Rachel will be running a stall at the Sleaford Farmers Market next Saturday, June 3.

She will be selling cakes, and there will also be a raffle with prizes donated by friends and colleagues, a guess the name of the bunny competition, and goodie bags for children.
