Marathon man Dan lines up support from Martin Clunes and TOWIE stars Mike Norcross and Jessica Wright to fundraise in dad's memory

A Bassetlaw businessman who devotes his spare time to fundraising in his father's memory is gearing up for another incredible feat - and has plenty of celebrity support.

By day, 33-year-old Daniel Kerley is the director of a recruitment company, but after-hours he is a fundraising superhero, spurred on by the death of dad Peter in 2014.

Ever since Peter lost his battle with lung cancer, Daniel has done everything in his power to create a positive legacy, by taking on a series of challenges for charity.

He said: “I started doing this because I didn’t know how to deal with the death of my dad, it happened so suddenly. He was only 55, and a non-smoker. The coroner said he’d been ‘dealt a bad card’.

“My way of coping is to continue to fight and raise awareness and money, because one day I hope we will find a cure for this evil disease.”

Daniel has already raised more than £10,000 for healthcare charities by running races such as the Robin Hood Half Marathon and the Clumber Park 10k and the Lincoln 10k.

Next he will attempt the big one – the London Marathon on Sunday, April 24. This time he is aiming to raise £1,000 for Hospice UK.

And the race will have added significance for Daniel.

He said: “London always reminds me of dad. There was a period when we both worked down there and we always used to meet for lunch.”

Sadly there is another cause to run for now Daniel’s mum Jackie, aged 57, has begun her own fight against skin cancer.

In the mean time, his efforts have inspired a star-studded social media campaign, with famous faces lining up to cheer him on.
