Sheffield man Andy Howarth chose to attempt the marathon for a cause linked to Lexy, who died in January last year at the age of seven.

The sponsor money he raised will go to the Neuroblastoma Society, championing the specific cancer that Lexy suffered.

Mr Howarth, 43, a close friend of the Strong family, said he was spurred on through his first full marathon by thoughts of Lexy, and the courage that the youngster displayed throughout his illness.

The dad of two joined almost 40,000 runners at this year’s event and said he was much relieved to have completed the course.
