Marching for St George

Youngsters from the 22nd Rotherham (Dinnington) and the 11th Rotherham (Kiveton) marched through the town centre.

They joined more than 500 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Network Scouts from 17 different groups to celebrate St George who, along with being the Patron Saint of England, was also the Patron Saint of Scouting.

The parade was followed with a service held at Talbot Lane Methodist Church, where the scouts renewed their promises and were transported back in time, to hear from the founder of the movement Robert Baden Powell.

The service was led by District Commissioner Neil Leatherland who said: “The message from Baden Powell remains just as relevant today as it did when the movement was founded.”

A special Rotherham Scout rap was also launched at the service, with all members being encourage to write new lyrics for the song over the next few months.
