Marton project is so good it needs a special new award

Marton Primary School held an energy debate as part of their project

Their project ‘Our energy- the great debate’ was so good that the judges had to create a Special Award to ensure that it received the recognition it deserved.

Their project was among the best received in the Totally Powered Up Award category from schools in northern England.

The Total Green School Awards is a nationwide competition for 5 to 11 year olds, which is run by the Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) in partnership with Total.

The competition, which aims to generate interest in the environment and raise awareness of the need for sustainable energy sources, has received entries from almost 34,000 school children.

The school has been very busy learning about different types of power and produced a video which encapsulates everything they have been doing, from visiting a power station to desigining and making exo-homes to looking at the pros and cons of solar power and nuclear energy and staging a class debate on the issues raised.

The children also created their own modern interpretations of famous paintings, incorporating modern technologies such as wind turbines.

The school will receive a special certificate and a cheque for £250 to recognise their achievements.
