Men arrested after metal theft

THREE LOCAL men have been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing copper and lead from a building in Gainsborough.

Officers were called to a building in Lea Road, Gainsborough, at around 1.20pm on Wednesday 21st August after reports that thieves had broken in and were stealing metal.

Police attended the scene and arrested a 20-year-old, a 22-year-old and a 65-year-old, all of whom were local men .

All three were questioned by officers and released on bail pending further enquiries until Friday 9th September.

Metal theft has recently been a significant problem in the town.

Insp Michelle McIlroy said: “We have made significant inroads into tackling the offenders operating in the area in recent weeks and the aim now is to keep the crime levels down.”

She added: “We do need residents to remain vigilant. If you see anyone acting suspiciously around properties in your area then please do call us as soon as possible. Please also note down descriptions of people and cars, including registration numbers.”
