Meridian Meats in Louth wins big at Smithfield Awards

A Louth butchers is having a brilliant 2017 after recently winning big at the Smithfield Awards in London.

Meridian Meats in Eastgate bagged the diamond award in the ready meal class with their lamb tagine.

They also secured gold with their cassoulet, Normandy pork and steak pie as well as silver status for their beef bourguignon, chicken chasseur, eye of the tiger curry and goatherders pie.

Jim Sutcliffe from Meridian Meats said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have done so well at Smithfields.

“This is a really prestigious competition and we were up against some seriously good butchers.”

Jim went on to explain that the ready meals are a new addition to Meridian Meats.

He added: “We decided that now was a good time to offer a gourmet range of ready meals, that could be enjoyed as a treat, night off or even an easy dinner party.”

The awards ceremony took place in London where Q Guild butchers from all over the UK came to collect their awards from guest speaker Tom Parker Bowles.

To add extra competition praise to the year, Meridian Meats also got two awards at the 2017 British Pie Awards.

They got a silver award for their lamb and mint pie and a bronze for their steak and stout pie.

The British Pie Awards were held in Melton Mowbray.
