Midge counting down to festival

With this year's Newark Festival less than a month away, The Standard spoke to one of the acts set to take to the stage at the event '“ hit singer/songwriter Midge Ure.

The ex-Ultravox member, multi award-winner, and co-writer of the UK’s second biggest selling single of all time, Do They Know It’s Christmas?, will perform as part of an evening of music dedicated to the 80s.

He appears on the bill alongside Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley, ABC, and Bananarama.

He told The Standard last week he was impressed by the ‘hefty’ line-up, saying: “An awful lot of hit songs will be performed on that night.”

For him, this will see songs from across his career, from Visage to Ultravox and his solo releases.

“It will all be hit-led,” he said. “There are a lot of artists who don’t want to play the songs that made them successful. I don’t quite understand it.”

The Newark Festival runs from Friday-Sunday, June 18-20, at Riverside Park, Newark-on-Trent. The ‘80s Night’ is held on the Saturday. Friday will feature tribute acts to Bon Jovi, The Foo Fighters, The Killers, and Arctic Monkeys. The Sunday is a ‘Swing in the Park’ free family fun day.
