Misterton first responder rewarded for her efforts

Libby Stennett received a highly commended award in the category for EMAS volunteers.

The award ceremony at the Colwick Hall Hotel in Nottingham celebrated ambulance service staff and volunteers who are the pride of the NHS.

The volunteers award was sponsored by the family of Paul Basford, who died in a road accident in Nottinghamshire in 2001.

Libby has been a volunteer for eight years and is part of the Five Villages First Responder team that covers Misterton, Beckingham, Walkeringham, West Stockwith, Gringley and surrounding areas.

“I wanted to give something back to the community where I had brought up my children,” said Libby.

“I read about the group being set up and felt that it was something I could do - to give care to people in urgent need until the ambulance arrives.”

Libby has been trained to respond to patients suffering medical emergencies such as heart attacks, chest pains strokes and collapses.

She has attended over 500 emergencies since 2005 and is often the first on scene, giving care until an ambulance arrives.

“I was very shocked that I had been nominated, but I was delighted to be recognised in this way,” she added.

Organisers of the Five Villages First Responder team said: “We are extremely proud of Libby, she truly deserves to be recognised for the care she gives to members of the local community as a first responder.”

“She is dedicated, professional and committed. She is a true team player and is the deputy coordinator, helping to run the group.”
