Monks' Dyke Tennyson College governor resigns after closure decision in Mablethorpe is confirmed

School governor Tony Howard has handed in his resignation now the closure of the Mablethorpe campus of Monks Dyke Tennyson College has been confirmed.

Mr Howard who is also a local councillor commented: “It is well known that I opposed the move towards closure right from the off, so I believe the time is now right for me to go.

“Within the confines of the board of governors there is nothing left I can do to stop it.”

Councillor Howard has been a leading member of the group campaigning to prevent closure ever since the governors proposal was made public. He added: “I have done everything within my power as a governor to try and get the decision changed but the last hope on that front has gone. Therefore I feel I must concentrate all my efforts on my work with the project team who are developing a better option for secondary education in the town.”

Chris Flanagan from the campaign group said: “With closure now confirmed we are now changing from being a protest group and evolving into a project team.

“It is great to have Tony fully on board and we are looking now for professional people from the world of education to come on board too. “As we get further into the process we need more highly skilled people with an education or managerial background to work alongside the academy trusts that are showing great interest in what we are proposing.”
