Motorcycle racer and TV presenter Guy Martin's world speed record attempt in Lincoln thwarted

Lincolnshire motorcycle racer, record breaker and TV presenter Guy Martin will now not be attempting a world speed record on the River Witham in Lincoln today (Thursday) it has been announced.

Television company Channel 4 has been filming a new series of Speed with Guy Martin and the TT racer from Kirmington, North East Lincolnshire was due to be filmed attempting to break the record for the fastest human-powered watercraft by pedalling one of two lightweight hydrofoils - one of them designed and built by the University of Lincoln with help from carbon fibre component experts SHD Composites of Sleaford.

Crowds lined the Brayford Pool in Lincoln yesterday (Wednesday) to watch Guy do practice runs for his record attempt, while being filmed by the North One production crew.

But according to the company, owing to problems with the amount of weed which had grown up due to the summer weather in the Brayford Pool, the attempt will no longer be taking place today. This is despite the Brayford Trust’s best efforts to clear the weed.

In a message to his fans, Guy said: “Ta’ for the support, I look forward to having another crack at it down the line.”
