Moulton Seas End teen's passion for animals set to leave legacy

Sophie Evans, an animal care student at Boston College, died in her sleep on Monday, November 7, aged just 18.

The teenager had been involved with Sutterton Veterinary Hospital in one way or another for the past three years through work experience, weekend and holiday work.

She also went on her days off from college and practice manager Emma Walker said: “Sophie became part of the team.

“Even when she was poorly she came in here and she also worked on her days off.”

The vets have been so touched by Sophie’s death that they have, with the permission of her parents, set up a fund in her name, with money raised being used to treat sick and injured animals brought to the surgery without an owner.

A post on the vets’ Facebook page described Sophie as a “lovely, caring, friendly girl who will be dearly missed”.

It said: “All of us at South Lincs Vet Group are still coming to terms with this sad news.

“Sophie’s family have spoken to our practice manager Emma and have said that they would like any donations made at the funeral to be split between Sutterton Veterinary Hospital and The Poppy Appeal.

“These were two things that Sophie was extremely passionate about.”

The appeal, called Sophie’s Legacy, has already had £77 donated by Sutterton Women’s Institute.

The Facebook post continued: “Emma and the staff were overwhelmed and wanted the money to help animals who need it the most as this is what Sophie would have wanted.”

A JustGiving page set up to support the efforts has also raised more than £85, but you can still make donations and people are being asked to mark them for the care of Emma.
