Headteacher Amanda Tyler said: “We’ve been having visits to assembly and visits to the classroom from the charities.”

“We thought it would be nice to have a visit from somebody from the charity that uses a guide dog and is in the public eye, so we emailed David Blunkett.”

Mr Blunkett and his guide dog Cosby spent an hour will children in an assembly talking about his life and answering questions.

Mrs Tyler added: “Beforehand the children had prepared questions and members of the school council asked Mr Blunkett them.”

“He was absolutely brilliant with the children. They asked him how does he tell the time and he explained that he has a special watch which he lifts up the cover of and the face is in Braille. They also asked if he cooked and he said he said he has a microwave that talks. They also asked him about his dog Cosby and how he gets about London.”

“It was fantastic opportunity to meet someone in the public eye who is using a guide dog. He was absolutely fantastic and how he spoke with the children was great.”

So far this year the school has raised around £400 for their chosen charities throughout the school year. Events included book sales and collections at Harvest and Christmas.
