Provision for secondary school education in the town recently suffered a hammer blow when Lincolnshire County Council decided to shut down the Mablethorpe site of the Monk’s Dyke Tennyson College.

However, a campaign group has formed with the aim of setting up a Coastal Free School which would offer a site for local children.

Now, residents are being urged to attend a public meeting which will be take place on Friday, May 6 at 6pm. It will be held at the site of the former Tennyson High School.

According to the group, the meeting aims to give people an in depth insight about what a Free School would offer.

It will be the first time that the plans for this new school will be outlined.

Chris Flanagan, of the new Coastal Free School campaign, said that a Free School would be ‘a turning point in the history of education along this coast.’

He said: “Parents will hear details of the planned new school in depth for the first time. They will see how different the new school will be from anything previous.

“With major partners from education and business in place together - and with the commitment of this community - a new dawn is breaking for our young people.”

The meeting will feature a short presentation by the Coastal Free School ‘team’ and guest speakers. But the main event of the evening will be an open session, chaired by Ms Atkins, in which parents and members of the public can ask questions.

Ms Atkins said: “The plans for a Free School in Mablethorpe are exciting and I am pleased to support them.
