Mr Music going for Olympic gold

TVA media centre manager Chris Cook has had other huge success in writing music for TV documentaries and for the trailer to The Da Vinci Code - Angels and Demons.

Now, Chris says he’s thrilled that he’s been given the prestigious task of penning four symphonic suites to be played at the official opening ceremonies and in regional centres around Britain for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“It just feels absolutely amazing,” said Chris.

“The stuff I’ve written before was for news programmes and documentaries, but to know that I have written something that will be heard by millions of people around the world and that I have played a part in such a major event feels so special - especially as it’s the London Olympics, which is a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

Chris wrote an email to the Government Board involved two years ago, telling them that he would be interested and sending them some examples of his work.

Four months passed and Chris thought he’d heard the last of it - but they asked him to write four pieces of music.

“I’d like to thank everyone at TVA for their support and being so fantastic,” said Chris.

“I have lived in Gainsborough for half of my life and the support I’ve had has been amazing - I could not have asked for a better town or place to work with better people.”

He continued: “It’s been so very special.”

TVA co-ordinator or performing arts Caroline Leak said she was proud and amazed of all that Chris had accomplished.

“This latest news is absolutely incredible,” she said.

“To think that we’ve got such talent in a small town like Gainsborough is amazing. People may often think of our town as quite insignificant but we’ve got far more talent like Chris in this school alone.”

She continued: “The facilities and teaching here at TVA really give pupils that opportunity to succeed, and knowing that one of their own teachers can do something like this is a great inspiration to everyone and really shows them what they can do.”

TVA business manager John Cawdell added: “This again demonstrates what huge talent we have here at TVA, and we are delighted that Chris has been able to use our wonderful facilities to hone musical abilities.”
