Much needed win for Marshalls side

STRUGGLING Marshalls picked up a much needed win on Saturday, taking 20 points in the Bassetlaw Championship.

The Gainsborough men hosted Notts and Arnold Amateur and skittled their visitors for 119.

Dolhan Cooray starred for Notts and Arnold with 38 runs, while Gary Andrews took 3 for 30.

In reply, Marshalls knocked off the required runs for the loss of five wickets, Paul Van den Heuval making 40 and James Deacon an unbeaten 30 en route to a five wicket win.

In Division One Everton lost to Killamarsh at Sheffield Road after making 169 for 8, Jon Mimms top scoring with 69.

Killamarsh picked up a two wicket win thanks to their innings of 170 for 8.

Wiseton hosted Edwinstowe and took five points from a losing draw.

The visitors made 228 for 5, Richard Keightley taking 3 for 27, before Wiseton made 125 for 8 with Richard Dannatt’s 37 runs the highlight.

Lea Park travelled to Anston’s second team at Ryton Road and came home with the full 20 points.

Lea were inserted on a wet and green wicket and for once made a solid start with Lee Mardle (20) and Chris Needham (40) running well and finding the boundary regularly.

The small Anston ground usually means that a 250-plus score is par but the weather conditions meant around 240 would pose problems for the chasing team.

Lea posted 246 for 9 with Andy Dewick (49) top scoring, ably supported by Simon Turner (44) and Andy Lobley (37).

It was at last a decent batting performance from Lea but someone should really have gone on to make a much bigger score.

Anston’s reply began badly when Den Law and Dewick picked up early wickets before the home side seized back the initiative with a succession on boundaries.

The introduction of Needham then saw two wickets fall in his second over as he removed the dangerous Forster, superbly caught by Dewick, and Anston captain Pete Norbury second ball.

Anston regrouped and then made a late onslaught with Stoneman making 49 off half as many balls but when he was bowled by Dewick, Lea were back in charge.

Dewick ended with 4 for 42 and Law with 3 for 64 as Lea held on for a much needed 46-run victory.

In Division Four Marshalls II beat Everton II by a comprehensive 134 runs.

Ian Brooks scored 49 in Marshalls’ total of 196 for 8, while Everton were bowled out for a mere 62, Leigh Street taking 5 for 16 and Ben Barker 3 for 5 in the demolition.

Rose Leisure were well beaten by Bawtry at North Warren Road who notched 168 for 8, while Rose Leisure could only manage 90 before they were skittled.

Division Five’s Misterton were beaten by 79 runs by Milton II who made 158 for 7 and then dismissed Misterton for 79.

Wiseton II took seven points from their losing draw with Farnsfield II.
