Multi-million pound housing development under way in Skegness

Waterloo Housing Group is working in partnership with East Lindsey District Council on the development, with the first of 101 homes expected to be complete later this year.

The site, currently arable land, has been purchased from Louth United Charities. The funds generated by the sale will enable them to continue their work to support those most in need in the local community.

The development is possible due to funding of £2 million from the Homes and Communities Agency and a further £1 million contributed by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Economic Partnership (GLLEP).

The houses will be built by locally based house builder, Chestnut Homes. There will be a mixture of one, two, three and four bedroom houses and one and two bedroom bungalows. Seventy-eight homes will be available for affordable rent and a further 23 will be available to part rent, part buy through shared ownership.

Ursula Lidbetter, chairman of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, said: “Our housing market plays an important role in supporting the local economy. We are pleased to be able to work with local partners to enable provision of a wide range of homes to suit all budgets, in the right places to support business growth and stronger communities.”

Andy Parker, area development manager for Waterloo Housing, said there was a ‘real need’ for this kind of development in the town.

He said: “Skegness has a real need for affordable housing and we are pleased that we will be able to provide new homes for local people and at the same time support the work of Louth United Charities. It is also another good example of Waterloo Housing Group working with our partners East Lindsey District Council to secure Government funding for homes in the area.”

We have worked together to bring the land forward, obtain planning permission and now start construction on this much needed housing for Skegness.”
