Must tache as hair gets the chop...

They can range from bushy creations to more of a neatly trimmed handlebar style - but the one thing they have in common is they were all grown for a good cause.

Firefighters in South Yorkshire teamed up with support staff to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

The headquarters team, nicknamed The Flaming Lips, had around 40 moustache growers and were joined in their fundraising drive by staff at the service’s training centre and firefighters at stations round the region.

The Flaming Lips believe they will have raised around £4,000 once all the donations have been collected.

Group manager Mick Mason said: “This has been a fantastic event, with everyone embracing the fun factor of Movember, and also the slight competitiveness that has arisen. On a serious note, this is a very worthy cause which raises awareness of men’s health for which we have all worn our moustaches with pride”.

Rotherham councillor Simon Currie also grew a moustache in November and agreed to have a full body wax for the cause.

Coun Currie, who had his moustache removed and body waxed on 26th November, said: “It was a bit painful, but well worth it. I wouldn’t want to be doing it everyday, however.”
