New Chinese takeaway proposed for former vets surgery in Heckington

Yat Tau Cheung, of Aidan Road, Quarrington, is applying for the change of use of the property at 25A High Street in Heckington.

There are few details about the plans at this stage having only just been submitted to North Kesteven District Council planners for consideration, but the applicant’s agent, Barry Rawdon explains in his submission that his client propposes to repaint the exterior and replace rotten wooden windows.

The building which was vacated by the veterinary practice a year ago.

He also plans to fit signage on the frontage, lit from above. He suggests parking would be on the road outside and in the car park on the village green with opening times expected to be Tuesday to Sunday 4.30-10.30pm.

Already the plan has drawn criticism from a neighbour living opposite who points out there is already a Chinese takeaway a few yards up the street in the village.

The planning documents notes objection from Simon Martin, of High Street, Heckington. He says: “The main High street is too busy and parking is full already. To add a collection takeaway will make an already overcrowded road very dangerous.

“Also we are a village - why on earth would we require two Chinese takeaways less than 100 yards apart?

“Living directly opposite we already struggle to leave our house as people park on our drive. This will make it worse and dangerous to pull out as we cannot see the traffic with cars always parked both sides.

“We are in danger of ruining a beautiful village. I know it is growing, however having two of the same makes no business sense or adds local benefit and the villagers will suffer.”

The Standard has contacted the applicant’s agent but has received no response at this stage.
