New facilities to help town's 41 homeless

Centrepoint Outreach has recently fitted a new shower room thanks to a £2,300 donation from the Rotary Club of Boston. Staff at the charity, in Red Lion Street, then decorated the room and had new vinyl flooring laid.

The facilities are used by many of those in need each week - including four homeless women.

“Being able to have a shower is something most of us take for granted, but Centrepoint Outreach is the only place in Boston where those who are homeless are able to have a free shower,” explained the charity’s chief executive Liz Hopkins.

“As one rough sleeper said to us, ‘having use of the shower helps me to feel human again’.”

The charity’s old bathroom was described as ‘extremely tired’, with the floor on the point of collapse.

“Clients had to climb into the bath to use the old shower,” said Liz. “The bath has now been replaced with a wonderful new free standing shower unit and we also have a new toilet, basin and flooring.”

The shower is available for homeless people every weekday afternoon, and on Saturday mornings, when they operate a first-come first-served booking system.

Liz offered thanks to the Rotary Club for their support with the project, along with the contractors and suppliers who she said completed the work quickly with ‘minimal disruption’.
