New funding for mental health

West Lindsey District Council is encouraging groups helping people with mental health problems to apply for a new wave of funding.

The Mental Illness Prevention Fund from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Lincolnshire County Council aims to reduce the risk of people becoming unwell and get help to people as soon as they need it.

It is available to people who have lived through mental illness, and those living with it for the first time. There is £310,000 is available and each project can apply for up to £25,000.

Chris Allen, head of public protection at WLDC, said: “This funding could be invaluable for groups providing vital services that make a real difference to our residents and we would strongly encourage them to apply.”

“The health and wellbeing of our residents is a priority for us and we’re delighted the county council and Lincolnshire Partnership NHS have been able to offer this funding.”

So far £515,000 has been given out across the county. Beneficiaries include Disability Network West Lindsey, which runs arts and music groups and offers friendship drop-in groups, and CG Partnership, which got funding for its Healthy Minds project.

Sophie Deeks, from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, added: “As well as helping existing groups the fund can also be used to support new groups to set up new activities to help people affected by mental health problems.”
