New leader for West Lindsey

Conservative councillor Jeff Summers, who has been deputy leader, was voted in at the full meeting of the council.

He takes over from former leader Coun Burt Keimach.

The result was expected after Coun Keimach - who had been leader for the past three years - was replaced by Coun Summers as leader of the Conservative group at a meeting held earlier this month.

Coun Anne Welburn was also elected as the deputy leader.

Coun Summers, ward member for Waddingham and Spital, said: “Eleven years as a West Lindsey councillor has provided me with lots of insight into how a local authority will have to be operated in the future.”

“I think I speak for everyone when I say we have a very determined body of councillors, officers and staff to jointly meet our aspirations over the next few years.”

“The aspirations to which I refer are further improvements in our waste collection and recycling rates, further implementation of the Localism act, listening to our communities and acting positively to improve lifestyles,” he added.

Coun Summers lives with his wife Rowina, and has two children and five grand children.

He was educated at Corringham Primary School before going on to Castle Hills secondary school.
